John Gilkey is a Steinway Factory Trained Piano Technician, and Piano Tuner experienced with the latest in Piano Technology. As a 2nd Generation Piano Technician with over 25 years of experience, he has a long list of Celebrities and Concerts that he has Tuned for as a Concert Tuner. REPAIR
Some “Piano Tuners” only Tune Pianos! John Gilkey is a Piano Technician, which means that he can Repair almost any Piano and do all of the necessary adjustments of the internal Action. ( A.K.A. Regulation) He is also an Expert on all Piano Related Services including Voicing and Humidity Control Sytems.
CONCERT PREP
He performs the highest level work for local Colleges and is the Piano Technician for the “All Steinway School” at Cal Poly University in Pomona. He has worked for Grammy Winning and Nominated Artists and his work can be heard on Professionally Album Recordings. He is also a Studio Musician (Pianist) and has his own Recording Studio. Being a Piano Player himself for over 35 years, he knows how a Piano is supposed to play and sound, and how to communicate with Musicians about the Piano.
RESTORATION
John has completely Rebuilt and Refinished all kinds of Pianos from family heirlooms to top of the line Pianos like Steinway; Bechstein, Bosendorfer, Mason & Hamlin, Knabe and more. He oversees and handles everything from Piano Moving, to completion of the Project, but since he is a busy man he doesn’t do it all by himself, he works with other Piano Technicians often on his large projects. like a General Contractor overseeing the entire thing from start to finish. All of the Concert Prep or finishing touches are done personally to ensure the highest quality outcome.
